Fuerteventura 2017 Photo Diary // Day 2

This little photo diary features day 1 of our 2-day road trip around Fuerte back in June. This is from Ajuy, where we took a visit to the volcanic caves and had a late lunch facing the black sand beaches. I'm posing in the shadows since my shoulders resembled freshly steamed lobster, straight out of the pot. Nothing like looking like a glistening crustacean.

We found out right before that final picture was taken that PJ had passed his exams for the 1st year of his English Law Master's, so of course we celebrated at Cuevas de Ajuy with some wine, fresh fish, and pan-baked Canarian goat cheese. I was in absolute heaven - even though the waiter had accidentally given our cheese to the girls next to us by accident. If I had been them, I also wouldn't have questioned free cheese. That ish was good.

Peace, love and goat cheese is all I need in life to be happy (obvs including PJ & Hobson). Hopefully you can eat that cheese someday soon, too. Highly recommended ;)

Mood Music Monday // Bouncing Off The Walls

Today's Mood Music Monday is dedicated to the amazing news I got from a friend on Saturday!!! I'm SO happy that I'm bouncing off the walls. This one's for you, B!

Your S

Mood Music Monday // True Feeling

As much as the artwork for this single is the stuff of my nightmares, I can't get this song out of my head. I only really figured out who Galantis is when my brother went to go see the Swedish DJ duo in London, but the second I heard True Feeling, I was hooked.

It makes me want to jump around on a dance floor with my friends. Unfortunately, my party opportunities are slim to none these days, but I've listened to it on my 6-minute commute every morning this past week, and it's a tradition I'll happily continue this week, too.

What's your song of the week?

Well, a month later and I finally have some pictures from our trip edited and ready to share with you from our week in Fuerteventura, staying at Magic Life. Starting a new job and enjoying Gentsefeesten have kept me busy these last few weeks!

The hotel was in Esquinzo, near Jandia, with beautiful beaches, a great view from our suite and so. much. food. Our first day was all about exploring the hotel, tasting the tapas and walking the beach with glasses of cava in hand (and giggling over what will henceforth be known as nudist castles). Though we only got in the water once (which was also only on our last full day there), walking the sand with my man was just the start we needed for our relaxing week.

I can't wait to share the rest of my photos! Expect some more posts in the near future - one featuring goats!

Packing List // Fuerteventura

We are finally, FINALLY heading out on a beach vacation for the first time in like three years - to Fuerteventura! To the SUN! Can you tell how excited I am? Do you see the title of this blog?

We finally booked it after I accepted a new position in Gent, which I'll start on the 3rd of July - the day after we get back. Let's hope I'm not looking like a lobster for the first day on the job. We're staying at an all-in resort hotel, which we've done before and liked, though I'm not sure how much time we'll actually be spending on the hotel grounds. There's so much to do on the island.

This week, with PJ out of town, I've been getting ready for the trip and daydreaming (plus napping) about all the things we're going to do - sunning, surfing, and sampling all the tapas I can get my hands on. Which also means that I'm prepping my packing list with all the summer shopping I've been doing. To be honest, I started shopping before we even booked this trip.

My absolute must haves for the week are shorts and swimsuits, though shorts are my summer staple no matter where we are. Add in a cute straw hat and some sunglasses and you basically have my wardrobe set for the week.

South Beach Straw Boater Hat with Peach Band (sold out, but I like this one and this one)
Embroidered Cotton Shirt (I. Am. Obsessed.)

This pink embroidered shirt is my everything right now. I didn't even need to try it on, I just knew - and Mango is killer for their tees right now - loving their graphic and slogan tees - I picked this one up a few weeks ago and have gotten so many compliments on it and the pink one above.

The rest of my suitcase will include a few dresses from last year that I just haven't had the occasion to wear, plus lots of greens, whites, neutrals, and all the other swimsuits I can stuff into it. And some sunscreen. Don't forget the sunscreen.

And with that, I'm off to get my nails done. I have a busy Thursday and Friday, with a new team dinner and workshop, then we head to the airport early Saturday. Only three more sleeps til I'm in paradise again with my love. Can't wait!

Shots of my city // Gent in June

Gent, Ghent, summer in Gent, spending one day in Gent, Belgium in summer, suz and the sun travel
This past weekend a friend living in Antwerp came to visit me in Gent for the first time. I've had a few foreign visitors in my two years in Belgium and I've circled this city quite a few times now. After she arrived, we went for lunch at Holy Food Market and got a bagel at Avo, then went around to see some of my favourite sights in the city. Here are a few shows from our walking tour around my adopted city.

Barcelona Photo Diary // April 2017

Sometimes I forget how unbelievably wonderful my parents are, but then they go and do something like buy me a ticket to Barcelona for my birthday so I can go there with them to visit the city for their first time (and see our friend Jordan (p.s. happy birthday JoRo))!

About two weeks after my 27th I flew over to Barca and crashed with them and Jordan for the next 3.5 days for tapas, shopping and a whole lot of Vitamin D (which was so desperately needed, my mom said I looked like a ghost).

We stayed in Eixample at the Avenida Palace, which was great for my shopaholic tendencies but horrible for my bank account, next to a bar called Obama, which I can recommend if you want a small place with live music most nights - but beware the pseudo-colonialist interior...

Other new discoveries (this was my first time there for more than one day (2011) /not-for-work (2016):

El Nacional - the interior starts with the greenery that you can see below, and it's sort of a food hall but it is so beautiful inside. And you absolutely have to check out the bathrooms. Trust.

Cerveseria Catalana - I thought that Tast was the cutest/nicest/smallest place for tapas and was so sold on it being my one & only (we ate there like 6 times in 2016) until Jordan took us to Cerveseria Catalana, which was honestly some of the best food of my entire life. Luckily Jordan, Dad & I decided to split a bottle of cava during dinner to really enjoy it.

Canarian cheese - So I didn't actually try this in a resto, but Jordan invited me to his place then out with his roommates, who were some of the nicest people ever. One of his roommates happened to be from the Canaries, and we had some nice jokes about both being from Africa ;) but then he brought out some Canarian cheese to pair with the wine of the night and omg, our trip to Fuerteventura might have been influenced by this. Thank you boys. From the bottom of my heart.

Check out some more shots below - I'm not sharing so many since I took about 300 shots with my new Olympus Mark II.

Rock n' Rose // Gold Chokers

rock n rose chokers, gold chokers, suz and the sun jewels, claudia choker, arlo choker

Happy Sunday!

I can't believe how long it's been since I last posted. SO many things have happened, including my 27th birthday & a few nice weekend getaways to bask in some Vitamin D. Aging, come at me.

The sun has also decided to grace us with its presence and spring is here! I decided to celebrate that fact with a little gift to myself. I've been looking for a nice gold choker but I've only been able to find them on US sites (considering the bloggers I follow). I usually don't like anything tight around my neck, but I finally came across Rock N Rose, a UK-based brand, and these beauties were something special. My choices were pretty clear from the get go. And there was a 25% off sale. It would have been a crime to myself not to indulge. Also, I ordered them Tuesday night and they were in my hands Friday morning.

I got three - one base chain and two to wear with it. I got the Arlo in gold as my base (but I'm equally obsessed with the Joelle and might grab it anyway), and took two toppers: the Renee, a gorgeous delicate chain, and the Claudia. The pink stones scream sunny weekends and white blouses.  It was between those pics and the Alexandra, which would def. match all my turquoise jewelry - but I feel like I'm cheating on my favorite store if I don't buy it in New Mexico.

Arlo is having a little dance on the side of my neck, apparently...

This is basically exactly what I wore yesterday to dinner and drinks with some friends - they showed up at separate times and were both extra impressed with my jewelry decisions. These babies can dress up any shirt. I mean, I know. They're fantastic.

I'm really happy with the vibrancy of the colours - the chains are gold plated so should last for quite some time as long as I take care of them well and don't get caught in any sudden rain storms. But this is Belgium, so...I guess I'll have to be extra careful since I'll probably be wearing them every day this spring and summer, especially for my trip to London in ten days.

Enjoy your Sunday! I'm going back to watching The Lost World and hanging out with my sun puppy.

Holidays in Sweden - Malmö, Gothenburg and Falsterbo

Gothenburg. Sweden city hall
I'm finally uploading the pictures from our Christmas & New Years up north. I finally got my hands on my dad's Canon (which I subsequently took possession of, Merry Christmas to me), so we spent quite some time messing around with it over the 10 days we were there.

It’s always nice to go home for the holidays. Seeing as my ‘home’ doesn’t really exist anymore, PJ and I spent the holidays at my parent’s new place in the south of Sweden (along with our cat and dog - that was a long 12 hour road trip).

We arrived on the night of the 22nd and were out shopping the next day! I can’t say that Belgian shopping is better than Swedish. I just can’t. Plus my parents live right off of Gustav Adolf Torget, which just so happens to have all of the shops I love nearby, with the addition of Samsoe & Samsoe down the street…

We had a wonderful Christmas Eve dinner with my grandpa in Falsterbo by the beach, where we also spent New Year’s day (check the pics later) after a hilarious NYE with some friends at their house and then sparklers and singing outside of Malmö Opera.

Christmas in Gothenburg

In between then, Peej took me on a little road trip up to Gothenburg! I went 2 years ago with my Canadian ladies (which was one of the weirdest experiences of my life), but this time we spent all the time in the world doing what we wanted to do as old people. This included me being wayyyy too excited about seeing a Sephora, attempting to visit a viking ship that was actually a deceptively named hotel, having the snarkiest bartender at ÖlRepubliken, having beer spilled all over PJ while watching a hockey game, and playing boules/bocce in the basement of BouleBar across from the Feskekôrka (fish church).

Statue of Poseidon on Avenyn, GothenburgBoulebar Gothenburg

Gothenburg recommendations:
Boulebar, for no other reason than being so much fun
Wasabi Wok & Sushi (We'd already had so much Swedish food and that edamame with curry paste and sea salt - my mouth is watering while I think about it)
The Edblad store to shop fun jewels - even PJ bought something
Walking by city hall on a sunny day
Check the awesome statues, especially Poseidon on Götaplatsen up Avenyn.
The NK department store, especially fun during sales
Da Matteo (on Magasinsgatan) for coffee and pizza (not at the same time - unless you’re into that, no judgement)
Every single design store you can possibly walk into
Slottskogen to see the outdoor zoo and ALL of the kids playing. Especially funny in winter when they’re all wrapped up like marshmallows
If you have time, the Natural History Museum is like taking a trip back in time, and they have the world’s only stuffed whale? G-borg, you weird.
Haga Nygata, and specifically Café Husaren for huge kanelbullar and hot coffee on a cold day, or take your kaffe to go and walk the sunlit street!

Basically, just walking around was such a joy. We spent a lot of time outside, and next time we’ll go back during the summer and do some canoeing on the archipelago with some friends!

The rest of our trip was pretty low key, considering I had to work one day and we had a pretty exciting NYE. Though Peej finally got to his first hockey game, and the Malmö Redhawks won 6-0 from Orebro. Redhawks fans for life, now.

I’m already looking forward to going back to see my family (and all my aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives that will fly in) for Midsummer, and to FINALLY see my friends from my corridor in Lund. We missed each other this time and it was tragic.

A final picture of my boys on the beach, close to where we'll be singing and dancing this summer:

If you have any other recommendations for places to see/things to do in southern Sweden for next time I go, because I definitely have not seen it all, let me know!

February Wishlist

It's snowing as I write this, so it seems as good a time as ever to post.

Let it be known from this day forward that I. Need. Sun. I need it so desperately, that today I had a meeting next to a window so that I could absorb a few cloudy rays.

My picks for this wishlist reflect that pretty intensely, save for the sweatshirt. Except it means I’m cold. Which means I need more sun. My logic is flawless, I think.

A colleague of mine actually walked in the day after I saw this Selected shirt and my consumerist heart broke a little when I saw it on her instead of me.To be fair, it suits her really well.

I'm also not really much of a dress and skirt gal, but these ones looked like they needed me to love them. I'm picturing myself with sandals and a nice, cold drink in my hand...

February wishlist, Suz and the sun style, Selected Femme Reve T-shirt,  F21 Contemporary Bell Sleeve Top, ASOS Button Through Mini Tea Dress, F21 Embroidered French Terry Top, Lost Ink Painted Dungarees Dress, ASOS Petit Bardot Sleeve Top
(I actually prefer this  in white with red text, but it's sold out in my size. C'est la vie)

Hopefully there’s some sunshine in my near future. And then some warmer temperatures, and the some beaches and sea water…I’m thinking a birthday getaway with some of the above seems like the best idea I’ve had in a long time.

Enjoy this snowy Saturday. I'm off to watch Riverdale before exploring Gent with a friend.

Mood Music Monday // Out Of My System

mood music monday, youngr, youngr out of my system, suz and the sun music

Uhh, so you've probably already heard of Youngr, or at least heard his music. This guy is incredible! This song's been popping up on my Spotify a lot recently, but it was only when  I saw this video that I was hooked. So into it.

And of course he's 1) not coming to Belgium and 2) in Paris/Amsterdam on days when some friends are coming into town. Ugh. Until next time.

Mood Music Monday // Rooting For Your

Late to the game as usual, but alas.

I've always really liked the style of all the London Grammar songs I've ever heard, but this is something really special. Hannah Reid's voice is spectacular. Whether you've not heard it yet or you've been listening non-stop since its release - enjoy it here.

Falsterbo Beach

While I go through hundreds of pictures from our holiday in Sweden (mostly Malmö, Gothenburg and Falsterbo) enjoy this adorable picture of my two boys at the beach near my grandpa's.
